China said Wednesday that it will send a military delegation to participate in a regional meeting on security policy to be held in Surabaja, Indonesia next month.
The delegation, headed by deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Wei Fenghe, will attend the meeting slated for June 7-8, said the country's Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng at a regular press conference.
Starting from 2004, defense officials from the Asia-Pacific region have met each year before the ASEAN Regional Forum to discuss security policy.
The ASEAN Regional Forum was founded by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It is the principal channel for multilateral security dialogue in the region.
At present, the ASEAN Regional Forum comprises of 27 members including the 10 ASEAN member states namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the 10 ASEAN dialogue partners namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States, and seven other countries in the Asia and Pacific region namely Bangladesh, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Papua New Guinea.
