One person was wounded when an unidentified gunman opened fire at a high school in the U.S. metropolis of Los Angeles on Wednesday, authorities said.
The shooting took place near San Pedro High School in the 1000 block of West 15th Street at about 2:45 p.m., police said.
Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman Susan Cox said the shot was believed to have been fired from off campus.
A bullet fired near San Pedro High School ricocheted off a wall and lodged in the leg of a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.
The girl, whose name was withheld, was not believed to have been seriously wounded.
Police reportedly picked up the suspect in the shooting at 1001 W. 15th St. shortly after the incident occurred.
The roughly 3,400 students at the school were held in classrooms until about 4 p.m..
The motive for the shooting is unknown and it is also unclear if the suspect is a student at the school.
