At the start of the G8 Summit in Deauville, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso have held a joint news conference.
Van Rompuy used "cautious optimism" to describe the economic situation in the Eurozone. Concerning Libya, he reiterated the demand for Gaddafi to step down.
Herman Van Rompuy, EU Council President, said, "The European economy is ...On Libya, ...and tonight, we will exchange views on Libya."
