Nigerian civil defense deploys 20,000 officers for presidential inauguration

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 20,000 personnel and 300 security dogs in Abuja for the presidential inauguration on May 29.

Ade Abolurin, the commandant-general of the corps, made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja at an event to showcase the corps' mobilization for the inauguration.

He said the corps was fully ready for emergency cases and any breach of peace during the inauguration.

Abolurin stressed that acts of vandalism or terrorism would not be tolerated by the corps.

He said 300 dogs had also been deployed to sniff and uncover weapons on persons, as well as devices such as bombs that might be planted by mischief makers to cause any havoc.

Abolurin said the corps was working in collaboration with other security agencies, including the police and the military to ensure a crime-free inauguration.

"All units are fully ready. We have purchased new vehicles to be deployed for first aid and other natural emergencies," he told reporters. He assured the public of maximum security, noting that the corps had also deployed its personnel all over the country.
