Chinese man arrested in Thailand for alleged bank embezzlement in China

A Chinese man apparently posing as a Thailand national has been arrested for allegedly embezzling 32.96 million U.S. dollars from Chinese banks, Thai authorities mentioned Monday.

Thailand's Department of Specific Investigation (DSI) arrested the man, who held an ID card that identified him as a Thai national, on May possibly 18 in Bangkok, a DSI press release said.

"Our investigation has shown that the suspect, Chen Wu, has lived in Thailand underneath the name of Boonchai sae Kang," the DSI mentioned.

The DSI, which stated Thai authorities would cooperate with the Chinese embassy in Bangkok in transferring Chen to China, stated Chen also was charged with illegally requesting a Thai ID card.

Chen reportedly received his 1st Thai ID card in 1995 within the southern province of Krabi.
