Japan 6.1 earthquake occurred east coast

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit the sea off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 8:05 a.m. Beijing Time Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 37.3 degrees north latitude and 143.9 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 20 kilometers, the center said.
