500 members elected in Vietnam

As many as 500 people have been elected deputies of the 13th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, the National Election Council announced here on Friday.
Of the newly-elected lawmakers, 333 become legislators for the first time, four are self-nominated. Of the 500 legislators, 98.2 percent hold bachelor degrees or above, 15.6 percent are ethnic minority people, 24.4 percent are women, and 8.4 percent are not members of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Of the above 61.9 million ballots for NA deputies, the vote turnout rate in election was high as 99.51 percent. According to the election council, 303,656 deputies have been elected for the People's Councils at all levels for 2011-2016 tenure.
About 61.9 million out of 62.2 million Vietnamese voters casted their ballots on May 22 to elect the 500 law makers from 827 candidates and 306,068 members of the People's Councils at all levels for 2011-2016 tenure. The 13th NA's first session is scheduled to start from 21st July.
Vietnam has a total population of some 87 million.
