South Korea recouped 60.1 percent of bailout funds it provided during the Asian financial crisis, the financial watchdog said Thursday.
As of the end of April, the country retrieved 60.1 percent of public funds which was given to ailing financial firms since the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) said in a statement.
South Korea injected a total of 168.6 trillion won (156.69 billion U.S. dollars) into local financial companies between November 1997 and April 2011, and the country collected 101.4 trillion out the total public funds, according to the FSC.
Another bailout fund, which was injected to ease financial instability after the global financial crisis, reached 4.5 trillion won during the June 2009-April 2011 period, and the nation recouped 891.9 billion won, or 19.8 percent, out of the total funds, the FSC said.
