The Mexican first division soccer team Atlas has hired Argentine coach Ruben Omar Romano for the 2011 Apertura Tournament, its board said on Thursday.
Romano has coached a number of other Mexican clubs including the two major clubs Cruz Azul and America from the capital Mexico City.
Atlas, based in Mexico's second largest city of Guadalajara in the central state of Jalisco, said in a statement that Romano will be presented to the media on Friday.
This is the second time for Romano to lead the Atlas team after coaching the club for the 2006 Apertura and 2007 Clausura tournaments.
Romano will replace Mexican Benjamin Galindo, who during the 2011 Clausura Tournament saved the Guadalajara club from being relegated into the second division. Atlas has stayed in the major leagues of Mexican soccer for the last 60 years but has not managed to win a local tournament.
