Cuba decries U.S. sanctions on Venezuela

Cuba on Sunday strongly condemned the United states after Washington slapped sanctions on Venezuela's state-run oil business Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) for its transactions with Iran.

These sanctions are "attempts to divide" Latin America along with the Caribbean and could spark "new conflicts," the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated inside a statement.

"We need to denounce this aggression and we must ask no matter if the U.S. is starting a brand new escalation against the Bolivarian Revolution," it said.

"When Venezuela is attacked the same happens to Cuba," it said, adding that Cuba will take steps and perform with other countries to restore the international law and cease the United states from violating it.

On Tuesday, the U.S. government imposed sanctions against seven foreign firms, including Venezuela's state oil organization PDVSA and Israel's Ofer Brothers Group, which it stated are involved in offering Iran with gasoline and other refined gasoline goods.
