Fonterra was the very first New Zealand organization invited to join the Planet Customs Organization's Private Sector Consultative Group ( PSCG), mentioned a statement from the company Monday.
The PSCG advised the World Customs Organization (WCO), the intergovernmental body that develops global customs requirements, and procedures relating to trade facilitation and supply chain security, said the statement.
Fonterra Group customs manager Robb Stevens mentioned inside the statement that membership from the 30-strong PSCG was by invitation only and included key global firms including Basic Motors, IBM, FedEx and also the Globe Shipping Council.
Stevens stated the invitation acknowledged the cooperative's international presence as a manufacturer, international seller and encounter with customs authorities in different markets. As a PSCG member, Fonterra would have input in simplifying customs processes to smooth the flow of goods for all New Zealand importers and exporters.
"As a country that relies on exports, it is in our interests to see consistency in market rules, access and regulation. As the world's largest dairy exporter and with our goods now in over 140 countries, we have an essential contribution to make both for New Zealand and for Fonterra," stated Stevens.
New Zealand Customs Service group manager of policy Denise Hing mentioned having a company involved inside the group was a major opportunity for New Zealand.
"The PSCG has important influence on the WCO's role in supporting the development of globe trade. This a genuine possibility for a main New Zealand organization to possess a say in the development of far more effective global supply chains," stated Hing.
Established in 2006, the PSCG has focused on the implementation of the WCO's Secure Framework of Requirements to Secure and Facilitate International Trade.
The group also advises the Secretary Basic and WCO Policy Commission on issues including the influence of the international economic crisis and organization recovery.
Stevens would represent Fonterra in the 19th meeting of the PSCG from June 20 to 22 in Brussels, Belgium.
