Japanese shares fell Wednesday, with the Nikkei index hitting a 2-month closing low.
The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 54.29 points, or 0.57 percent, from Tuesday to 9,422.88.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.42 points, or 0.17 percent, to 817. 74.
On the First Section, declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones 1,027 to 465, with 169 others remaining unchanged.
Trading volume on the main board fell to 1,607.63 million shares from Tuesday's 1,653.32 million.
Turnover on the TSE First Board stood at 1,095.6 billion yen ( 13.36 billion U.S. dollars).
