Serbia introduces mobile truck-scanner at Hungarian border crossing

Escalating its efforts in the ongoing battle against smuggling and organized crime, Serbia on Wednesday implemented the newest generation of mobile truck- scanner at its border crossing with Hungary at Horgos.
Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, who officially put the mobile truck-scanner into operation, said Serbia would be purchasing 10 additional scanners to be used at its busiest border crossings and at customs locations throughout the country. The Chinese-manufactured scanners are expected to speed up the clearance process for vehicles, while deterring the transport of black market and illegal goods.
Cvetkovic said the scanners were obtained through an inter-governmental agreement with China, which extended a 30 million Euro loan for their purchase.
Wei jinghua, Chinese ambassador to Serbia, said the two countries were enjoying a period of growing inter-governmental cooperation resulting from Serbia's recognition of the strategic contribution of high technology in the further development of the country.
