2 AU peacekeepers Death in Mogadishu suicide attack

Two soldiers from African Union (AU) peacekeeping troops inside the Somalian capital Mogadishu were killed and four others wounded right after suicide Islamist fighters attacked among the mission's base, a spokesman for the peacekeepers stated.

The attack was carried out by four heavily armed Islamist fighters with explosive belts who were dressed in Somali government military uniform. "Two of our soldiers died and four other people had been injured within the attack on our base. 3 of the four men with explosives on their body were killed and 1 is still at large," Capt. Prosper Hakizimana.
Hakizimana stated that he was also aware that one of the pro- government militia group of Ahlu sunna waljama was injured within the attack by the radical group of Al Shabaab which has claimed responsibility for the assault.

The Islamist group has been loosing ground to Somali government forces and AU peacekeepers in recent offensive in Mogadishu and southern provinces.

The spokesman said that the suicide attack was a sign of desperation on the part of the militant group as it faces 1 of its worst losses to the peacekeepers backing Somali government.

Islamist group of Al Shabaab control much of south and center of the war ravaged east African country whilst Somali government forces backed by practically 10,000 peacekeepers from primarily Uganda and Burundi run just a little far more than half the capital plus a number of key towns within the south of the country.

Somali government forces backed by AU peacekeepers have lately been creating steady progress against rebel forces inside the capital Mogadishu and in parts of the southern provinces where numerous key towns and villages were recaptured from radical group of Al Shabaab.
