Mainland answers Taiwan drink alert

Contaminated food and drinks have also been sold on the mainland, after a trek across the Taiwan Strait. A number of cities, including Shanghai, are responding swiftly.

Authorities there have found more than five-thousand bottles of contaminated sports drinks, in two large chain markets. The operators have already taken them off the shelves.

A few dozen kilometers to the west, in Jiangsu Province, the city of Kunshan now boasts a large population of Taiwan businessmen. Many bottled drinks from the island are sold there. Since the latest food safety scandal broke out, local supermarkets have banned all suspected products.
