The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened flat, down 0.27 points at 23,117.80, then traded between 23,086.05 and 23,257.85 in the course of the day's session. Turnover totaled 50.40 billion HK dollars (about 6. 48 billion U.S. dollars).

Oils shares put in smooth shows, the country's largest oil and gas producer PetroChina moved up 0.18 % to 10.96 HK dollars. CNOOC, the HK-listed unit of China's National Offshore Oil Corporation, gained 0.32 percent to 19.12 HK dollars. Nevertheless, China's best refiner Sinopec lost 0.52 %, to close at 7.6 HK dollars.
