The FARC guerrillas kidnapped and shot dead on Monday two candidates for mayor of the Colombian town of Campamento when they were campaigning in a rural area.
Catalina Lopera, a local government official, said Guillermo Roldan from Cambio Radical party and Adonay Correa from the Conservative Party, were kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and later shot dead.
Local police said both candidates were about five hours driving from Campamento when they were killed.
Local media reported that both candidates had no bodyguards with them.
Colombia's regional elections are slated for October. Mayors, governors and regional deputies will be elected in the election.
FARC, the country's largest rebel group, is notorious for its kidnapping of political figures.
