The seventh seed Maria Sharapova from Russia fought back from one set down to overcome the French wild card Caroline Garcia 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0 to go through the women's singles second round at the French Open on Thursday.
The three-time Grand Slam winner Sharapova put herself in great danger as she trailed behind 1-4 in the second set, but was tough enough to take the following 11 games in a row, refusing the 17- year-old Garcia to produce an upset.
Sharapova, 24, will play Chan Yung Jan from Chinese Taipei, who defeated American Jill Craybas 6-1, 6-4.
