Airport S of the two major Indian cities on high alert

Indian authorities Wednesday sounded a high alert at two airports inside the southern cities of Chennai and Bangalore after an e-mail followed by an anonymous threat call informing about the presence of bombs, stated highly placed official sources.

"While the e-mail was sent to the Bangalore Airports Authority Tuesday evening, the threat call was received within the wee hours of Wednesday. All security personnel guarding the two airports have been put on high alert," stated the sources.

Apart from checking all vehicles entering the two airports, security personnel have carried out extensive searches on some private airlines operating from the cities, the official stated, adding that no suspicious items have been discovered yet. "Efforts are on to trace both the e-mail and the phone call," stated the sources.
