China UnionPay Co., Ltd. (CUP), the country's largest bank card payment processor, announced in Beijing on Friday that its cards will now be accepted by all automatic teller machines (ATMs) owned by Peru's Interbank as of Friday.
The company said it has also made arrangements that will allow Interbank's point of sale (POS) systems to accept the company's cards by the end of this year. Interbank is Peru's largest retail sales bank.
Cai Jianbo, executive vice president of CUP, said that cooperation with Interbank will help CUP bank card holders to save 1 to 2 percent in currency conversion fees when they withdraw cash in Peru through Interbank's ATMs.
The Interbank ATMs will feature Chinese interfaces to facilitate their use by CUP card holders, Cai said.
Currently, CUP bank cards can be used in 110 countries or regions around the world.
