Australian Prime Minister looks forward to Aborigines recognized

This will be an exciting moment, united Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recognition in the Australian constitution, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Government has pledged to recognize indigenous peoples held in the preamble of the Constitution to insert a statement or document placed in one of the most likely to hold a referendum.

Girard, who in North America and central Australia aboriginal land occupied a three-day visit, made on changing the founding document of the State, not to mention the vast continent's indigenous peoples referendum.

"Recognizing that the Australian Constitution, the first Australians unique and special place can be a wonderful national goals," Girard said in a speech Wednesday, the Northern Territory in Arnhem Land quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald.

"An opportunity to recognize the founding of our founding documents, is our common pride in Australia and our common indigenous culture in Australia continue to be proud."

In her speech, Girard pointed out that the 1967 referendum, in recognition of the census of indigenous peoples, and later the recognition of land rights and the historic 2008 settlement, because the British apology for past injustices suffered.

"I believe that in the coming years the country to form a common future, our cooperation, to end the lives of our people and the Mark of the shortcomings of cooperation in the management of our national life and respect for the spirit," she said.
