Algerian security foils suicide attack on police station

Algerian security services have foiled a suicide attack targeting a police station in the province of Tizi Ouzou, 100 km eastern of the capital Algiers, several local media reported on Friday.
A suicide bomber carrying an explosive belt attempted on Thursday evening to assault a barrack pertaining to communal guards (village police) in the village of Ait Saada in the upper mountains of Sidi Ali Bounab, sources said.
Yet, the communal guards anticipated the attack and managed eliminating the terrorist before committing his suicide attack.
The sources said army explosive specialists came to the spot and dismantled the suicide belt.
Later on, a fierce armed clash broke out between the guards and a terror group which was watching the operation from distance.
Since 1990s, the militants from Algeria's extremist organizations often attacked the military, police, government departments and civilian targets. The number of such attacks decreased in recent years after the government adopted national reconciliation policy and strengthened the military crackdown.
