China, Myanmar vow to enhance cooperation in fighting transnational crimes

 State Councilor Meng Jianzhu met with Myanmar's Minister of Home Affairs Ko Ko on Friday, and the two sides agreed to reinforce cooperation in fighting transnational crimes.
"China-Myanmar exchanges and cooperation in law enforcement and security constitute an important part of bilateral neighborly friendship," said Meng, who is also the minister of public security.
Meng said bilateral law enforcement cooperation have enjoyed sound development, and cooperative mechanisms are constantly being improved.
"The cooperation effectively safeguarded the security and stability of the border areas," he said.
China wants to work jointly with Myanmar to boost cooperation in fighting transnational crimes, in order to contribute to the security and stability of the two countries, especially in the border areas.
Ko Ko, who is a member of the delegation accompanying visiting Myanmar President U Thein Sein, said Myanmar was ready to improve the mechanism of meetings on cracking down transnational crimes and safeguarding public security.
The Myanmar government attaches great importance to its friendly cooperation with China, Ko Ko said.
Meng also reviewed the bilateral friendship, saying the two peoples consider each other as brothers.
"China is ready to work with Myanmar to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas for the benefit of the two peoples," Meng said.
Myanmar shares a borderline of more than 2,200 kilometers with China.
The two countries' cooperation in border areas cover issues such as anti-drug and border security.
