Some 20,000 families have been affected by flooding due to continuous strong rains in southern Philippines, senior government official said on Saturday.
National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council executive director Benito Ramos said that flooding took place in 29 villages in the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur on Friday.
"Three schools, namely: Nuling Elementary School, Nuling National High School in Barangay (Village) Salimbao, and Sultan Kudarat Islamic Academy in Barangay Bulalo are still submerged under floodwaters," he said.
He added that flood waters remain waist-deep at some point in most of the affected villages in Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao.
