Iranian police has killed four armed bandits in southeast Iran and confiscated some weapons and ammunition from them, local semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday.
The bandits' vehicle was identified and destroyed in a police raid in east of Kerman province, provincial police chief Hussein Chenarian was quoted as saying.
Iranian police forces are keeping a close watch on the country' s eastern border to block the infiltration of drug traffickers and armed bandits into the country.
Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said early March that Iran's police had seized more than 400 tons of narcotics since March 2010.
Iran is located at the crossroad of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan, the world's top opium producer, to Europe.
Iran has hanged dozens of drug traffickers in the first days of 2011 and vows to further pursue the campaign against drug smugglers.
