The United Nations will give Mauritania 215 million U.S. dollars between 2012 and 2015 to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), an official source told Xinhua on Saturday.
The agreement for this aid was signed in Nouakchott on Friday by Mauritania's Economic Affairs Minister Sidi Ould Tah and Coumba Mar Gadio, who is the resident coordinator of UN office in Mauritania.
The Mauritanian minister said the agreement was signed when the drafting of the third action plan for fighting against poverty between 2011 and 2015 is almost complete.
The minister hailed the importance of the steps outlined in the agreement with the UN and the amount of money that will be mobilized.
Gadio declared the new program as part of the UN's integrated and collective response to national priorities, including those defined in the government's 2011-2015 document for fighting poverty.
