The main square in Seoul, Korea will face a fine of smoking

Smokers in Seoul will no longer be capable of light up in the city's principal squares as they're going to be fined 100,000 won (93 U.S. dollars) beginning Wednesday if they may be caught smoking, regional media reported Tuesday.

A smoking ban ordinance impacts three principal squares in downtown Seoul -- Seoul Plaza, Cheongyecheon Plaza and Gwanghwamun Plaza inside a bid to decrease negative effects of secondhand smoking in public places.

These three spots have been designated as no-smoking zones since March this year, but Wednesday will mark the very first day that the ban comes into force with all the fine of 100,000 won.

City officials will patrol the places from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each and every day to enforce the ban, as outlined by nearby media reports.

Seoul also plans to designate additional public spaces as no- smoking places inside this year, adding 21 city parks by September and 295 significant bus stations by December.
