Political reforms in Algeria sovereign choice: PM

Algeria Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia said Sunday that political reforms in the country are a sovereign selection instead of becoming dictated by foreign forces.

Ouyahia told a press conference here that the reforms have nothing to do with protests erupted in January, referring to demonstrations provoked by the soaring food prices which coincided having a wave of unrest in the Arab region.

"The predicament in Algeria is not the same as countries which have witnessed turbulence in current months," Ouyahia stated, adding that Algeria "has traversed an important path with regards to democracy, and nowadays you will discover 40 independent parties, 80 newspapers and 60 non-affiliated trade unions."

Ouyahia more named on the opposition to "participate massively and efficiently to produce those reforms a good results."

Algeria President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has pledged to implement political reforms together with the consent with the majority of political actors in the nation.

The reforms incorporate producing amendments for the constitution along with other laws and codes, such as the election code, party code, information and facts law plus the representation of females in elected councils.
