Two Australian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan: defense department

Two Australian soldiers have already been wounded just after their car struck an improvised explosive device though on patrol in southern Afghanistan, Australian Defense Department confirmed on Sunday.

The Defense Department mentioned the two soldiers, who had been portion of an Afghan National Police and Unique Operations Process Group joint patrol.

It mentioned they're in a satisfactory condition following the incident on Wednesday.

Shortly soon after the incident, the soldiers had been evacuated by helicopter though the automobile was destroyed to avoid possible use by insurgents. They may be now being treated as outpatients at their Tarin Kot base.

"Thankfully their wounds were such that it appears they will make a full recovery," Chief of Joint Operations Lieutenant Basic Ash Energy stated inside a statement released on Sunday.

"Their Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle took the brunt of the blast and was drastically damaged in the explosion."

The Defense Department explained that it delayed releasing information concerning the soldiers because they must wait until the operation had concluded.

Following the latest incident, a total of 24 Australian soldiers have already been killed, when 175 soldiers have been wounded in Afghanistan considering that October 2001.
