Denmark government appoints "export ambassador" to China to increase trade

Denmark's liberal-conservative government has appointed a former Danish EU commissioner as the country's so-called "export ambassador" to China, neighborhood media reported Sunday.

The new role is expected to increase Denmark's trade ties with China.

In accordance with Denmark's Berlingske Tidende newspaper, Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen named Ritt Bjerregaard, a former EU commissioner, who also previously served as a minister for Denmark's Social Democratic Party, towards the post.

"Ritt Bjerregaard is an incredibly knowledgeable and international politician," Rasmussen told Berlingske, with the commissioner who also served as Mayor of the Danish capital Copenhagen.

"This is particularly correct with regard to her knowledge as EU commissioner, but additionally in relation to her work as Mayor, which strengthened Copenhagen's international cooperative relationships."

Bjerregaard's most important process might be to create opportunities for Danish businesses in China by heading Danish trade delegations there, and developing partnerships in between businesses within the two nations, Berlingske said.
