Found with Parkinson's disease, melanoma, two-way link

U.S. researchers have found that with Parkinson's disease and melanoma of the bidirectional association, according to a new study published in the forthcoming nerves.

This is not only more likely to develop Parkinson's disease who melanoma, but melanoma were more likely to develop Parkinson's disease, said that from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences researchers.

The results published in Monday's health news.

In this study, researchers analyzed 12 years of epidemiological studies, from 1965 to 2010, between the Parkinson's disease and the possible association of melanoma look. This is a process called a element analysis, pooling data from different research, trying to find a consistent statistical model.

Although these studies in most cases, less than 10 on two occasions, the researchers found that Parkinson's disease were twice as likely is not Parkinson's disease human melanoma.

For women, melanoma is a dangerous and a half times, if they have Parkinson's disease than if they do not, the researchers found.

Parkinson's disease is not only more likely to increase the risk of melanoma, but melanoma is also more likely to increase the risk of Parkinson's disease, the researchers said.

"It seems that the association is bidirectional, said:" lead researcher Dr. Chan, aging and Neuroepidemiology Group authority.

However, since the two conditions are relatively rare, have Parkinson's disease and melanoma of the probability of only about 4 percentage points, said Chen. "Absolute risk is not high," he added.

However, "it is prudent to patients with Parkinson's disease about their skin health care," Chen said. "Be careful, but do not panic."

Scientists have theories about why these conditions seem to occur together, but no definitive answer. They know this is not Parkinson's disease patients need medications, Chen said.

"These two conditions may share a common genetic pathway or environmental factors or both," he said. "We understand that this may have little."

Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system, causing tremors, stiffness and movement, coordination and difficulty walking, and skin cancer melanoma is the most dangerous type.
