Naoto Kan, Japanese Prime Minister sent a message to New York, "UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to support the re-election," Edano said.
"We are very grateful to him in the past five years, the problems around the world work for many years, and we hope he will continue on this great responsibility in the international community," senior Japanese government spokesman said.
Ban Ki-moon on Monday announced that he had served as Secretary-General of the United Nations formally proposed a second term, and confirmed his intentions in a letter to the 192 Members of the United States government.
The Council will be asked to vote on approval of its re-election and the General Assembly will vote for him, and then a second term.
Ban Ki-moon will almost certainly be re-elected, because the United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and the United States, the five permanent Security Council members, said they would support him.
Ban Ki-moon Secretary-General will be the fifth time to win re-election and give his vote, his second term will begin January 1, 2012.
