Natural gas to play a greater role in the global energy mix: IEA

Natural gas in the global energy mix will play a greater role, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) released a report Monday.

The new report, entitled "is entering a golden age of gas?" Inspection of the main factors that could cause gas in a more prominent role in the global energy mix, and other fuels, energy security and climate change.

The 128-page report presents a scenario in which global use of gas rises by more than 50 percent from 2010 levels and accounts for more than a quarter of global energy demand by 2035. However, the report also strikes a cautious note on the climate benefits of such an expansion, noting that an increased share of gas in the global energy mix is far from enough on its own to put the world on a carbon emissions path consistent with a global temperature rise of no more than 2 degrees Celsius.

International Energy Agency Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said: "We have seen in the natural gas market in recent months significant progress. Has a strong potential to assume a greater role in natural gas and natural gas markets become more global diversification to improve energy security. "

"The natural gas is a 'clean' fossil fuels, it is still a fossil fuel use can increase the muscle low-carbon fuels, such as renewable energy and nuclear energy, -. Particularly after the incident, in Fukushima and a possible reduced role in some nuclear countries. Only use gas expansion is no panacea for climate change, "he added.

IEA is an autonomous organization, works to ensure that its 28 member countries and beyond, reliable, affordable and clean energy.
